Kyosho TF-6 Adachi

by the wind on Mar.03, 2010, under RC News

Just went on sale for the market, Kyosho TF-6 model use by Shinosuke Adachi on his TITC competition tour.
Having somewhat similar configuration as the rest of other high end tourer, we’d expect this one would not disappoint drifting hobbyists looking for alternatives.

Tamiya TB03R, TA05v2 Upgrade Pack and others

Tamiya TB03R Chassis
Tamiya TB03R

Previews:
Tamiya has just released some new chassis kit for early 2010 season, among others, new bodyshell Lamborghini Gallardo with TA05v2 and Nissan GT-R with TT01D type E. Needless to say the Gallardo is the only one that could be regarded as new.

TB03 R chassis being likely to be the refinement tuning of TB03 genre is yet to be confirmed as version that has major improvements over the standard TB03 build, or were there just standard kit with additional options brought on board.

Before we talk more on these, let’s take a walkthru on the TA05 v2 #92217 which is released just before. This chassis wasn’t labeled as R or v2 R to be precise, perhaps to avoid confusion with the TA05 R of version 1. Anyway, here is some quick run down info on the particular chassis:

Description:
Tamiya TA05 version 2 chassis kit with an Upgrade Pack.

Included Hop Ups/ Performance Addons:
Item 42102 TRF Special Damper (Hard Black Coating) 4pcs
Item 53833 TA05 Front One-Way Unit
Item 53992 TA05-IFS Aluminum Rocker Nut
Item 53993 TA05-IFS Aluminum Rocker Arm Set

Item 54023 DB01 Front One-Way Pulley (37T)
Item 54121 Aluminum Horn For Hi-Torque Servo Saver
Item 51000 Hi-Torque Servo Saver (Black)
Item 51023 Medium-Narrow Racing Radial Tires
Item 53471 Medium-Narrow 5-Spoke Wheels (Offset 0)
Newly designed TRF decals 1pc

Feature:
1/10 R/C assembly kit

Specifications:
Length: 373mm
Width: 188mm
Wheelbase: 257mm
Tread: 165mm
Gear Ratio: 1:7.19
Tire Diameter / Width: 64/24mm

As the TA05v2 was designed for Tamiya GT class race, it is expected to be performing rather well for intermediate drifting purposes. Previous TA05v2 (standard built) that we’ve tested was definitely a much better drift chassis compare to the v1.

No bodyshell was included (such as those like TB03 Ds etc.) in the #92217 and you may expect the same case with the #84109 TB03 R.
Interestingly, we could see that IFS is getting more established for GT racing on both TA05 and TB03, but conventional damper straight mounting still have higher numbers of preference among RC drifters.
Many IFS were converted as the result.

TB03 R will be more viable as the better option of TB03 for drift chassis over TT01 judging from the price/feature point of view. So if you’re looking for a starter kit with medium budget, then pick this chassis as consideration. Hopefully some performance aftermarket parts will be made available as well as originals, to make it more appealing to public.

So again we’re still awaits for that elusive high end Drift Chassis from Tamiya that will be on the same bracket as HPI Pro-D or HB TC-D, at least built quality wise.

ABC Hobby Lexus LS460 Body Set

ABC Hobby Lexus LS460

ABC Hobby Lexus LS460

ABC Hobby Lexus LS460

ABC Hobby Lexus LS460

Reviews:
No doubt ABC Hobby is the most prominent RC drift powerhouse at the moment for producing desirable bodyshells compare to the likes of Tamiya, Yokomo and HPI.
Although Yokomo produced considerable few D1GP bodyshells, while Tamiya and HPI trailing at some distance behind with fewer JDM or drift originated; ABC Hobby consistently releasing various body set through out the last 2 years.

The Lexus LS460 will be the perfect candidate for VIP build or bippu project, as it also equipped with light bucket as standard option. Other accessories may also be incorporated to complete the whole setup. This bodyshell also has the potential choice for either a gracious drifting machine for demonstration or an aggressive one for competitions.
It all depends on how it can be put together with properly tuned chassis.

Suzuki SX-4 New 2010 Fanta Orange Team

by the wind on Jan.09, 2010, under Howto, Project1, Techniques

Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

things you love to do ..
and a little walkthru tutorials on the project.
Tamiya released this bodyshell as WRC SX-4 version complete with light buckets, rear spoiler and stuff but we figured why go boxart while we could try something fresh for the 2010, something fun as well.
Important note before we start, SX-4 is a semi short wheelbase (251mm).

Boxart Look
Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

It doesn’t really relate to RC drift or drifting, but this cute and wide Tamiya Suzuki SX-4 bodyshell has all the ingredients for seriously fun setup like Fanta Orange soda drink scheme. With a little imagination, some tricks, addons and accessories we try to grab sweetness of the hobby on this build.
Started off with masking areas with lighter or different color than the predominant orange, we figured the layout as it goes.

Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

Tips:
Unless you’re gunning for freeflow paint scheme, it would be better if you have well thought pre-emptive plan prior to laying down the masking. You could use sketches etc.

A little bit of art sense would help a lot in getting the whole bodyshell decorated without going overboard or showing too little. You could always do fine tuning in the end if you have some decals in mind.

Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

Fanta Orange Suzuki SX-4

so off we go to the spray paint lab.
Now what we want is candy orange as close as possible to the original color on the can.
Here’s the howto layer by layer as easy as abc:
- Anodize Silver 2x
- Translucent Red 1x
- Translucent Orange 2x
- Camel Yellow 3x
- White 3x

Do the same procedures but with different colors for other areas with masking removed.
- Word ‘Fanta’ use Anodize Silver overflow with Translucent Blue backed with silver
- Leaf use Anodize Silver with Translucent Green, also backed with silver
- Droplets use Anodize Silver with Translucent Orange backed with silver

Final seal we use Acrylic White and Black.

Reviews:
You may exercise other options or ways you think would yield better result, what we did was based on what bodyshell and paints we have at that moment.

Finished form coming up!

Reviews:
The TRF 416X was developed using race data recorded by our worldwide team drivers. The TRF 416 has won numerous races around the world and has become a very popular championship-winning machine. As a result, the worldwide demand for the TRF416 lead Tamiya to produce two additional production runs of the product, which sold out instantly. The new and improved setup of Tamiya TRF 416X will be a strong candidate at the 2010 IFMAR world championship.

Walkthru
Motor position has been shifted 1mm to center for optimum chassis balance.
Rear ball differential has been shifted 1.8mm towards the rear to improve rear traction and acceleration projection.
Wider front bulkhead attachment screw positions and a new lower deck shape enhance the chassis’ front rigidity.
The build features new carbon 2.25mm lower and 2mm upper decks for tuning.
Front pulley features a direct coupling while the center pulley also features a direct drive setup.
Newly designed parts such as lower and upper decks, rear drive belt, front and rear lower bulkhead, motor mount, center bulkhead, and motor mount support included.

ABC Hobby Nissan Cedric

by the wind on Dec.03, 2009, under RC News

Recent bodyshell release from ABC Hobby, the Nissan Cedric.
Many hobbyist from RC drifting communities have regarded ABC Hobby bodyshells as 2nd grade.
We on the other hand disagree with that notion, as proven by this bodyshell, ABC Hobby has move a notch up to realism with detailed accessories and body lines.
For bippu lovers, this shell is definitely a good option for Christmas gift. Enjoy!
